Beth Orton Finds Kindred Spirits In US

East Anglian singer song-writer Beth Orton seems to have found a kindred home in America during her current successful tour there.

Orton has been wowing US audiences despite her latest album Comfort Of Strangers failing to match the success of her debut Trailer Park in her native Britain and she thinks Americans emotional openness makes them more receptive to her music.

She ponders to The Sun, I love getting up there and singing. I did the Jay Leno and David Letterman TV shows and they were both such a giggle - such out-of-the-normal things. I wouldnt really call it hard work in the States because I get a lot of support and encouragement here.

I think they are pretty easy with their emotions. They like to talk and they have this lucidity where they communicate in their own particular way. In my songs the emotion is quite close to the skin and not hidden, so maybe Americans are able to connect with that."

However, we'll get a chance to quiver our stiff upper lips in September, when Orton returns to Britain for a six date tour.
