Steven Gerrard picked up the gauntlet last night, claiming that the England team are "scared of no one."
The 26-year-old midfielder is adamant that when the football action becomes cut-throat, England will not be found wanting.
Gerrard said to the Sunday Mirror: "Seeing other teams play well doesn't scare me one bit. It is the kind of football I want to see at the World Cup. But scared? We're scared of no one."
"We all watched Argentina and it was a tremendous performance," he added. "But hopefully they have peaked at the wrong time. A lot of teams that win the World Cup get better as the tournament goes on - and we want that to be the case with us."
So do we Gerrard... so do we.
