Angelina Jolie has spoken out about her relationship with her mother, brother and estranged father.
In quotes published in OK! magazine, Jolie reveals how much her father deserting her family affected her child hood and how she has high hopes for her own children.
Jolie said: My father left my mother, my brother and me when I was six months old.
Like every child, my brother and I would have loved to have had a warm and loving relationship with our Dad.
My mother gave up her acting career to raise me and my beloved older brother after my father left us. My mum has taught me a lot about what it means to be a good person.
Jolie was a self confessed wild child and when growing up experimented with everything from her sex life, drugs and self harming.
She said: I tried everything. I know a lot more then some people my age, but at the same time there are some things I could have done without knowing.
Ive always felt really naughty and was involved in this sado-masochistic lifestyle.
Because of the environment in which she grew up, Jolie is determined to create a happy and relaxed environment for her children: Ive made a point not to live that way, probably because I grew up in it and because of my dad a bit.
Her childhood as also affected her adult relationships: I dont think Im very good at relationships. Ive always been afraid of marriage, afraid of having children.
Even afraid of accepting a film because that meant I had to be there, and sane and ready for the amount of time it takes to do a film. Im one of those people who needs to learn to let someone hug me. I need to learn how to need other people because I put up walls.
Jolie and Brad Pitt are currently in Namibia raising the profile for Global Campaign for Education and awaiting the birth of their baby.
