In his lawsuit, Jack Bunick claims that J Los show South Beach was stolen from a copyrighted script he wrote in 1999 centred two of young men travelling from Brooklyn to Miami and their involvement with clubs and modelling.
Bunick has claimed he was going to call his show South Beach Miami, according to MSN, the lawsuit states that a recurring theme in his script "is that the main character is from Brooklyn, New York, and that he is, in many ways, out of his element in South Beach, Miami.
According to TV network UPN, who has broadcast the show that piloted in January, they describe the show on their website as being about two friends Matt and Vincent, who "abandon their world as they know it and head to the alluring paradise of sandy beaches, beautiful people and hot spots in glamorous South Beach".
Brunick has claimed his agent sent this script to UPN in 2000 and never heard back; he is now claiming monetary damages and an injunction banning further broadcasting of South Beach.
