Harrison Ford Wanted To Be Killed Off In Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back

George Lucas reveals Harrison wanted Han Solo to die

Han Solo very nearly didn't make it, as Star Wars director George Lucas reveals Harrison Ford pleaded with him during the making of The Empire Strikes Back to kill off his character.

Harrison will be back as Solo in JJ Abrams new installment Episode VII, but it turns out the character's Star Wars story could've been a lot shorter.

Lucas, who created the franchise, has revealed Harrison was desperate for Han to die during the fifth chapter in the movie series, after his character was frozen and sealed in carbonite and delivered to Jabba the Hutt.

"Harrison kept yelling through the whole thing, 'Kill me! Kill me! Kill me!'" Lucas has told Deadline. "I said, 'Harrison, I can't kill you. I need you at the end of the next movie. There's this love thing going on. But I'll do the next best thing. I'll put you in a slab of concrete and ship you off to Mars'."

Lucas also opened up in the interview abut handing over the franchise to Disney, with Abrams at the helm for next year's release Episode VII.

"I love the 'Star Wars' films. I'm glad I made them," Lucas said. "They were designed to inspire kids to think outside the box. They did make a difference which I see every day. I see it in everything from astronauts to filmmakers. It's interesting the films are still being talked about."
