Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt left officials in Italy expecting their wedding disappointed yesterday.

It had been strongly suspected the Hollywood stars were tying the knot at their pal George Clooney�s house in Cernobbio, Lake Como, after the mayor was asked to remain on standby for official duties.

However, after the pair had still failed to appear by the end of the day � possibly deterred by the intense media coverage surrounding the small town � tired officials reluctantly trudged off.

Giuseppe Salvioni, a spokesperson for mayor Simona Saladini, said as they were leaving last night, �We are at the end of our rope. Let's say we are packing it in.�
