'America, I'll See You Soon!': Simon Cowell Gracious As The X Factor USA Is Offically Cancelled By Fox

The series will not return for a fourth season

Simon Cowell has issued a statement and also posted a series of tweets after the cancellation of The X Factor USA.

The struggling talent show, which suffered a dramatic ratings decline throughout its three years on the air, was confirmed by Fox yesterday (February 7) to be off the roster for 2014.

In a statement, Cowell - who is returning to the UK version of the show - said: "I’ve had a fantastic time over the last 12 years, both on The X Factor and American Idol.

"And apart from being lucky enough to find some amazing talent on the shows, I have always had an incredible welcome from the American public (most of the time!).”

He continued: “Last year, for a number of reasons, I had to make a decision to return to the UK version of The X Factor in 2014.

"So for now, I’m back to the UK and I want to thank Fox for being an incredible partner and I also want to thank everybody who has supported my shows. America, I’ll see you soon!”

The reasons he refers to could include the birth of his first child, and also the ratings problems the UK version has been having over recent years since he left.

On Twitter, he went on: "Today was a day of mixed emotions. Excited to confirm me returning to the Uk X factor and sad to leave America (sic).

"You realise how much you owe to the fans who have supported all of the shows we made in both countries. I have had a blast. Really the best time of my life.

"Thank you for the support and the fun we have had together. It's never forgotten. We found some amazing talent. And now the search begins to find the next star. That's why we make these shows."

The X Factor USA launched in 2011 with Steve Jones as host, and a panel formed of Cowell, Nicole Scherzinger, LA Reid and Paula Abdul. In the second season, Reid remained while Abdul and Scherzinger were replaced by Demi Lovato and Britney Spears. Khloe Kardashian and Mario Lopez took over from Jones as host.

In the third and final season, Spears and Reid were replaced by Paulina Rubio and Kelly Rowland, while Kardashian did not return as co-host.
