As Quentin Tarantino Scraps The Hateful Eight: More Movie Script Leaks

From Prometheus to Ninja Turtles

Quentin Tarantino has revealed his fury today after the script for his new western movie The Hateful Eight was leaked, announcing that he has now decided to scrap the anticipated project entirely. But The Hateful Eight isn't the only movie to fall victim to a leak.

The 50-year-old film-maker had only handed the script to six people but he discovered it had been leaked to the public when his agent began receiving phone calls from the agents of various actors in Hollywood who were keen for their clients to get involved with the project.

Revealing his shock at the betrayal, Tarantino told Deadline: “I'm very depressed. I finished a script, a first draft, and I didn’t mean to shoot it until next winter, a year from now. I gave it to six people, and apparently it’s gotten out today.”

The Avengers

In April 2011, a whole year before the release of Joss Whedon’s team-up of Marvel’s superheroes, popular movie site Obsessed with Film received an email from an anonymous source, who claimed to have a hard copy of the script.

Interestingly the leaked script included the watermarked name of one of the film's stars Samuel L. Jackson, with the actor later explaining that it was kind of his fault!

“When they sent me the new version of the script. I was shooting a film in Toronto and my assistant copied it from the email [and printed it] in the office somewhere. And by the time we got to Albuquerque someone had stolen the script out of the printer and put it online for sale with my name on it.

"I didn’t know printers had memories. And apparently my assistant didn’t either. So when [my assistant] printed my script out, it was still stuck in there.”

Luckily for Samuel and the production, the thief was caught before the full script was leaked.

Bill Condon’s biopic of WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange hit the headlines when Assange himself got hold of a copy of the script, and in true WikiLeaks fashion posted it on his site where he promptly denounced it as “a mass propaganda attack against WikiLeaks, the organization (and) the character of my staff". Assange's aversion to the big screen biopic only hyped up the publicity for the movie though, not that that helped the dismal box office numbers.

Ninja Turtles

Michael Bay’s reboot of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles has had a whole host of problems ahead of it's venture into cinemas this year, from a delayed release date to the film’s original script being leaked. Loyal fans were hopping mad over Bay's vision after spoilers were leaked online, only for the film-maker to insist that this was a “first draft” from before he even came on board. The movie is due to to hit cinemas this summer, where fans will no doubt be quick to cast judgement on the reboot.

Prometheus

Ridley Scott's Alien prequel Prometheus is famed for dividing fans with many sci-fi followers disappointed with the plodding space adventure. In fact the movie could have been very different as a script written by Jon Spaihts, titled Alien: Engineers, was leaked after the film's release.

Spaihts was on board before Damon Lindelof, of Lost fame, took over the screenwriting duties, with Spaihts quick to confirm on Twitter that his leaked script was real. With more aliens, and famed "facehugger" scenes many fans were left wondering why this more exciting screenplay was shelved.

X-Men Days of Future Past

Director Bryan Singer's new X-Men movie hits cinemas in May, but it was reported last week that the film, which reunites Jennifer Lawrence, Michael Fassbender and Hugh Jackman, could be facing a script leak.

Radar Online reports that they've received leaked script materials from the film which includes "how the first scenes of the movie will unfurl" and potentially even the film's very first casualty, a character we've met in previous X-Men films.
