Anne Hathaway Nearly Drowns In Hawaii Riptide Drama (PHOTOS)

Star is rescued and returns to husband's arms

This time last year she was the toast of several high-profile awards ceremonies for her stunning performance in Les Miserables, but fast forward 12 months and Anne Hathaway is enduring a near-death experience at the hands of a ruthless riptide.

The actress was in Hawaii on holiday with husband Adam Shulman when she was hauled underwater by the current; eventually crying for help and attracting the attention of a surfer.

At some point in the process the star also managed to injure her foot, resulting in some bizarre images showing Shulman sucking her toe clean - one step away on the True Love scale from weeing on a jellyfish sting.

He patched up the injury with a medical kit and the couple were soon seen back on their feet again, making the most of the sunshine and happily chatting to fans who approached them.

Anne and Adam tied the knot in the summer of 2012, a few months before she bagged an Academy Award for her portrayal of Fantine in the latest big-screen adaptation of the popular musical.

This isn't the only dramatic incident Anne has been involved with in recent weeks - as she was widely reported last month to have scooped up her dog's poop into a small bag and just left it on the hood of a paparazzi photographer's car.

Maybe that photographer was the same dude in Hawaii who took pictures of her nearly dying instead of helping her out...
