From Ella Eyre To Neon Jungle: 12 Music Acts Hotly Tipped For 2014

Check out our picks for next year!

  • Sam Smith Tickets

With this year almost over it’s time to take a peek at the acts tipped for success in 2014. While the likes of Ella Eyre and Martin Garrix have already topped the charts, there also a number of musical offerings from acts who’ve only just managed to get their debut singles out.

Take a look at the list below to get a flavour of what to expect from the music world in 2014…

Elyar Fox

Elyar Fox spent years posting covers on YouTube before being discovered and snapped up by record label bosses. Elyar has spent most of 2013 in LA making sure his upcoming debut album is perfect, but lucky fans who snapped up tickets to Union J on tour this month will get a sneak peek at the record when the the 18-year-old performs his support set.

2014 will see Elyar get off to flying start, completing the final gigs of the Union J tour before releasing his debut single ‘Do It All Over Again’ on January 12.

Ella Eyre

After cruising to the top of the charts with Rudimental collaboration ‘Waiting All Night’, Londoner Ella is going it alone and recently released her debut solo EP ‘Deeper’. The 19-year-old was educated at the prestigious BRIT School and also counts Professor Green, Naughty Boy and Tinie Tempah as former collaborators.

With backing from some of the UK’s biggest artists, 19-year-old Ella looks likely to top the charts again in 2014. The starlet has just a handful of concerts planned for 2014, including two gigs at London venue XOYO.

Sam Smith

Sam beat off competition from Ella Eyre to scoop the Brits Critic’s Choice Award and the 21-year-old vocalist will start 2014 on a high note when he’s officially presented with the prize on January 9. Like Ella, Sam received a helping hand in 2012 and performed the vocals for Disclosure’s hit single ‘Latch’. His debut solo single ‘Money On My Mind’ is due for release on February 16, 2014.

Jhene Aiko

Californian singer Jhene is set to burst onto the British music scene in October with her track ‘Bed Peace’ featuring Childish Gambino, completed with a video inspired by John Lennon and Yoko Ono’s famous bed-in stunt. Despite signing her first recording contract over two years ago, Jhene looks set to finally break into the big time next year and the 25-year-old is finally getting ready to release her debut album ‘Souled Out’ in early 2014.

Tori Kelly

Tori’s stunning covers of pop hits have gathered her a huge following on YouTube, her version of Justin Timberlake’s ‘Suit & Tie’ has been viewed over eight million times. The California-born singer has also been writing her own tracks since she was 14 years old.

With the help of Justin Bieber’s manager Scooter Braun, Tori has gone from strength-to-strength, performing intimate sets in cities worldwide and releasing her debut single ‘Dear No One’. Her hotly-anticipated debut album is due for release in Spring 2014.

Chloe Howl

While Chloe may have been left in the shade by fellow Brits Critics’ Choice nominees Sam and Ella, the cheeky teen is still destined for success in 2014. An eventful 2013 has seen Chloe perform small shows for plenty of music execs, as well as enjoying her first trip to Glastonbury. The gutsy singer is keen to dissociate herself from the rest of the pop world and describes her music as “steak and kidney pop”.

Chloe’s first EP ‘Rumour’ was released earlier this year and she’s currently working with Grammy Award-winning writer and producer Eg White to make her first album. Fans can also sign up to Chloe’s official website to receive first look at a number of free tracks.

Royal Blood

Brighton-based rock duo Royal Blood have been receiving plenty of attention since being announced as one of the support arts for Arctic Monkeys’ May 2014 Finsbury Park gigs. At present, the band have only released one track, ‘Out Of The Black’, and their current live set stands at just under forty minutes long.

However despite the lack of material, the duo are already garnering plenty of support and have been named on the BBC Sound of 2014 longlist and also supported Coldplay at their surprise Somerset pub gig earlier this week.

Martin Garrix

Dutch DJ Martin became the name on everyone’s lips when he pipped Lily Allen to the number one spot back in November, leaving fans eager to more of his dance music skills. Released in May, ‘Animals’ was a slow-burner and gradually dominated charts across Europe.

His latest tune ‘Wizard’ boasts the same dancefloor-filling elements as his debut single and has alrady been a hit on YouTube. The 17-year-old doesn’t have any headline tours scheduled but fans in Australia can catch the youngster performing at a number of festivals between now and March.

Neon Jungle

Feisty girl group Neon Jungle are set to give Little Mix a run for their money next year when their debut album ‘Braveheart’ is released on January 19, 2014. Their single of the same name merges urban pop vibes with electro-inspired beats and production style.

The ladies had a busy 2013, breaking into the UK singles chart with their debut single ‘Trouble’ back in September. They also performed at this year’s annual Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show.

Chance The Rapper

Named as Rolling Stone magazines MC Of The Year for 2013, Chance The Rapper – real name Chancelor Bennett – began to gain recognition for his mixtapes during 2013. Chance worked with everyone from Mercury Prize winning vocalist James Blake to US megastar Justin Bieber before his ‘Acid Rap’ mixtape hit the US R’n’B chart in April.

The 20-year-old has been on tour in the US during recent months and also played at Lollapalooza festival in his hometown of Chicago.

Irish musician Hozier, full name Andrew Byrne, made waves on both sides of the Atlantic when the haunting (and slightly NSFW) video for his track ‘Take Me To Church’ was unveiled in September. Since then, Hozier has been praised by everyone from Billboard to Stephen Fry - who even retweeted the vid.

Unsurprisingly, his string of tour dates at tiny venues has sold out, leaving fans hoping a bigger headline tour is announced soon. His soulful four-track EP is available now but fans will have to wait for more news on when his debut album will be ready for release.

LA pop act Banks, currently touring with The Wkend, has bagged a spot on a number of round-up shortlists including the BBC Sound of 2014 and Spotify’s Spotlist. A string of singles and one EP have nabbed the xx-year-old starlet the final place on our list.
