Oprah Winfrey Talks Motherhood: 'If I Had Kids, They Would Hate Me'

But reveals she regularly emails students at the Oprah Winfrey Leadership Academy

We might picture Oprah Winfrey as the mother of TV but it turns out that the multi-millionaire media mogul has never felt her maternal instinct kick in, even going as far as to say if she'd had children they "hate" her, in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter.

Queen of the talk show, Oprah Winfrey may be a mother figure and role model for plenty of young men and women, but the 59-year-old opted not to pursue having children of her own.

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Oprah revealed more about her decision not to have a family. The OWN host explained that as a little girl she never had the desire to have children, even though her friends did.

"Gayle [King, Winfrey's best friend] was the kind of kid who, in seventh grade Home Ec class, was writing down her name and the names of her children," Oprah recalled, "While she was having those kind of daydreams, I was having daydreams about how I could be Martin Luther King."

Proving that she doesn't regret her choice, Winfrey added that her career played a huge role in her decision: "If I had kids, my kids would hate me,"

"They would have ended up on the equivalent of the Oprah show talking about me; because something [in my life] would have had to suffer and it would've probably been them."

Of course Oprah, the woman who has made her millions by talking with families on her program, The Oprah Winfrey Show, has plenty of 'surrogate' children through her involvement with the Oprah Winfrey Leadership Academy for Girls. Students who attend the school, which opened in 2007, are able to chat with Winfrey via email.

Oprah explained to The Hollywood Reporter that she wakes up to her correspondence from the girls and shared that: "I'm responding to everything from 'I'm feeling lost' to 'I need advice about a boy,'"

The generous lady has donated an astonishing $100 million to the school and has even extended a Thanksgiving invitation to former students who are attending university within the US, proving that although she may not have children of her own, she is still willing to give out motherly advice to those that want it.
