Taylor Swift Reveals Ex Boyfriend Thought Red Break Up Album Was 'Bittersweet'

She has been linked to Harry Styles, Jake Gyllenhaal and Conor Kennedy over the years

Taylor Swift is known for channelling her real-life heartbreak into her music, and she's given a small insight into how her ex-boyfriends have reacted to being written about in her songs.

Swifty, one of the most popular popstars on the planet, has a knack for transforming her heartache into radio-ready pop masterstrokes, and it seems the men who inspire her work have had varying reactions.

Speaking to Vulture as part of a New York magazine special, she didn't name any names, but said that the person who inspired most of Red had a relatively "nice" response to hearing what he had inspired - but some people have taken to "ranting" instead.

“I heard from the guy that most of Red is about,” she recalled. “He was like, ‘I just listened to the album, and that was a really bittersweet experience for me. It was like going through a photo album.’

"That was nice. Nicer than, like, the ranting, crazy e-mails I got from this one dude. It’s a lot more mature way of looking at a love that was wonderful until it was terrible, and both people got hurt from it - but one of those people happened to be a songwriter.”

Taylor has dated a number of prolific men in the past, although some for only short periods of time. It is widely believed that 'I Knew You Were Trouble' was written about Harry Styles of One Direction, even though they didn't embark on a public romance until after Red had been released. She's also dated Jake Gyllenhaal, Conor Kennedy and John Mayer in the past.

Going back further, she has also been linked to Twilight hink Taylor Lautner and singer Joe Jonas.

However, she has revealed that she won't bother to write about a romance that was very short-lived.

“I only write songs about crazy love,” she admitted. “If I go on two dates with a guy and we don’t click, I’m not writing a song about that. It didn’t matter in the emotional grand scheme of things.

"There’s a lot that goes on in daily life that isn’t really worth turning into a verse and a chorus.”
