'The Best Time Of My Life': Beyonce Thanks TLC For Touring Slot With Destiny's Child

The 'Crazy In Love' megastar approached the band backstage at American Idol

Beyonce still hasn’t forgotten about the role TLC played in her success and wasn't shy about thanking the remaining members of the trio, Tionne “T-Boz” Watkins and Rozanda “Chilli” Thomas, for inviting Destiny’s Child on tour back in 1999.

While discussing their new biopic ‘Crazy, Sexy, Cool: The TLC Story’, Chilli and T-Boz heaped praise on the ‘Single Ladies’ singer. As one of the best-selling female acts ever, TLC paved the way for other R’n’B artists and the invitation to join them on a World Tour is something Queen Bey still remembers.

When they bumped into the star before their 2011 American Idol appearance, Beyonce was quick to thank them for reaching out and helping to change her life forever. “We were backstage [before a 2011 performance on ‘American Idol’] and she walked up to us and was thanking us, and we had never heard that from her before, it was really nice,” Chilli told The Grio.

T-Boz goes on to recall the entire conversation quite clearly, explaining: “Her exact words were: ‘Thank you so much, those were some of the best times of my life.”

“Thank you for letting us open up for y’all because that was the best time… one of the best times of my life.’”

Chili and T-Boz added that they considered it “so sweet” and “amazing” for her to take the chance to thank them. After their stint supporting TLC, Destiny’s Child went on to sell more than 60 million records worldwide before disbanding.

Beyonce’s solo career has also been a phenomenal success and includes over 15 Grammy Awards, a place in Billboard’s Artists of The Decade list and even a Golden Globe nomination for the Dreamgirl’s track ‘Listen’.

Meanwhile, the biopic charts TLC’s rise to fame as well as more difficult times for the band such as the 2002 death of Lisa ‘Left Eye’ Lopes in a car crash as well as the financial troubles faced by the group. Both TLC and Destiny’s Child were named in Billboard’s compilation of the Best Trios Of All Time.

‘Crazy, Sexy, Cool: The TLC Story’ will be screened in the USA tonight and there are currently no plans for a UK screening.
