'She's Just Growing Up': Pharrell Williams Defends Miley Cyrus Following Sinead O'Connor Rant

Miley has a close friendship with her 'big bro' producer

Pharrell Williams has stepped in to defend Miley Cyrus once again in the midst of the endless backlash the singer has faced over the last couple of months, claiming that her dramatic transformation is merely due to her “growing up.”

Miley, 20, hasn't been short of stirring controversy since her scandalous MTV Video Music Awards performance in August with the singer causing outrage after getting naked in the 'Wrecking Ball' music video and constant twerking antics, but 'Blurred Lines' producer Pharrell has been one of the few artists in Miley's close circle to defend the controversial star over her raunchy and shocking behaviour.

In an interview, Pharrell defends Miley's antics claiming it's merely a sign of her leaving her Disney days behind.

“She's just growing up, and she deserves her time and to do it her way,” Pharrell told Detail magazine. Miley has previously spoken of her relationship with Pharrell, who has worked on her new album 'Bangerz,' telling the publication: “Recording in the studio he doesn't ever play it cool. When we make magic together, we could like explode with how excited we are, and I think that's the energy everyone gets from Pharrell.”

Pharrell's comments come just days after Sinead O'Connor launched a shocking rant at the youngster in which she revealed her “concern” for her in light of the racy 'Wrecking Ball' video which was inspired by Sinead's 'Nothing Compares To You' visuals.

“I am extremely concerned for you that those around you have led you to believe, or encouraged you in your own belief, that it is in any way 'cool' to be naked and licking sledgehammers in your videos," Sinead wrote. "It is in fact the case that you will obscure your talent by allowing yourself to be pimped, whether it’s the music business or yourself doing the pimping."

She added: “The music business doesn’t give a s**t about you, or any of us. They will prostitute you for all you are worth, and cleverly make you think its what YOU wanted... and when you end up in rehab as a result of being prostituted, 'they' will be sunning themselves on their yachts in Antigua, which they bought by selling your body and you will find yourself very alone."
