Babyshambles were forced to cancel their gig at the Newcastle Academy last night after Pete Doherty was arrested for the second time in a matter of hours.

As reported by Gigwise yesterday Doherty was first arrested in the East End of London at 5.40am after being spotted driving erratically.

After officers spoke to Doherty, he was then arrested for allegedly having drugs on his person. He was taken in to a police station for questions and was subsequently released.

Doherty was then arrested again in Whitechapel at 3.05pm, once again on suspicion of possessing a Class A drug.

The Metropolitan Police told the BBC: "At 15.05 officers on foot stopped and spoke with a 26-year-old man in the street in Whitechapel, E1. They were concerned the man was under the influence of drugs and a subsequent search of him lead to the recovery of a substance believed to be a Class A drug.�

A spokesman for the Newcastle venue told the BBC that they had lost a large amount of money on the gig including some spent on hiring a plane to get Doherty to the show after he was arrested for the first time.

Babyshambles are due to play in Glasgow tonight, it is not known as yet if it will actually go ahead.
