Investigators have said that Penn�s death could have been due to a prior illness of because the actor had taken drugs in the past.
The 40 year old brother of Sean Penn was found dead on Tuesday at his Californian home.
According to the country coroner, Penn had suffered from illness and used multiple drugs; however, he gave no details of the illness and did not reveal whether the drugs were prescribed or illegal.
Coroners are currently waiting for the results from Penn�s toxicology report which will take up to six weeks.
Penn�s most recent film �The Darwin Awards� premiered at the Sundance Film Festival on Wednesday.
