Miley Cryus has proved that there's no such thing as bad publicity with new figures showing just how much the star's now infamous MTV VMAs performance a week ago has boosted her career and profile.
It's been almost a week since millions of viewers worldwide (and the likes of Rihanna and One Direction) were left shocked by Miley's jaw-dropping performance of new single We Can't Stop and Robin Thicke's Blurred Lines at the VMAs.
But four minutes of twerking, crotch rubbing and foam finger degradation have, perhaps unsurprisingly, only boosted Miley's profile and record sales in the past week.
Forbes have done the figures and it looks like over the past seven days Miley has sold 90,000 digital downloads of her new track “Wrecking Ball which debuted the day of the VMAs. The song now sits at No. 13 on Billboard‘s digital songs chart.
And that's not all. Over on Twitter Miley has gained an amazing 213,104 followers from August 24 to August 28 whilst she's got 226,273 new Facebook Likes- that all adds up to a 112% rise in social media activity according to Forbes

Thicke hasn't done too badly out of the performance either, gaining 101,399 Facebook fans and 46,372 Twitter followers. Sales of “Blurred Lines” singles though dipped 14% to 251,000, though his track ”Give It 2 U” did see a boost of 79%.
It sounds like it's all been part of the plan for Miley as she admitted in an interview prior to the VMAs that she is fully aware of her “haters.”
Speaking about her drastic transformation, Miley told We Love Pop: “I'm a totally different person to who I was when I was 16 or 18... I wanted to let people see that side of me, just not the glammed up beauty shot girl as that's just not me.
“Haters are gonna hate, but the haters are also gonna click on your YouTube video to watch it so I really don't care.”
The 'Can't Be Tamed' star added: “You can help me break records, even if you were just watching to hate on me. I break records, so I won!"
