Lady Gaga will premiere her new single 'Applause' from upcoming album 'ARTPOP' during her opening set to kick off Sunday's MTV VMA Awards 2013, it was announced today.
The 'Born This Way' hit-maker has collected 13 VMA Awards - a.k.a 'Moonmen' - of her own since her debut in 2009, and will open the show that is due to air live from Brooklyn's Barclays Center, USA Today reports.
Gaga's performance at the legendary music ceremony, follows her recovery from hip surgery in February, and will be her first high profile performance since her two year hiatus.
The 27-year-old singer-songwriter eagerly awaited performance will finally settle fans whom have been teased with her new single in the past weeks through social media and provocative artwork posted by the singer.
Gaga will no doubt drum up support for her upcoming album 'ARTPOP' which is due for release in November this year.
A number of music's finest will be performing alongside the pop megastar including Justin Timberlake, Kanye West, Katy Perry, Bruno Mars, Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, Miley Cyrus and Robin Thicke.

Meanwhile the star has been jumping straight into her rehearsals for her performance and posted a picture onto her Facebook page during the gruelling session.
The star appeared fresh faced with barely any make-up as she posed provocatively in between her two choreographers.
The snap was accompanied with the caption: "See you at the MTV Video Music Awards on August 25th #VMARehearsal? #Applause."
