Katy Perry looks set to rival Miley Cyrus and Lady Gaga after confirming her performance at the MTV Video Music Awards later this month where she will sing her new single 'Roar' for the first time.
Similar to Miley's teaser where she parties in a NYC subway, the 'I Kissed A Girl' singer and her Katy Cats storm down the street to catch the train on their way to the awards show while the Beastie Boys' 'No Sleep Till Brooklyn' track plays in the background, a clear nod to this year's ceremony taking place for the first time at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn.

The promo also sees Katy ditching her candy-coloured image in exchange for a darker persona, climbing out of a man hole to meet her growling gang. Eye-catching leopard-print and tiger stripes are in abundance, while Katy rocks her new look to perfection, wearing creepers, knee-high socks, a plaid skirt and black hair.
The four-time VMA winner, who is set to perform her new single 'Roar' live for the first time at the ceremony, is gearing up for the release of her next album 'Prism' in October.
The lead single leaked online over the weekend but Katy went ahead with the official premiere on Sunday, and it is currently at number two on the iTunes chart.
Also set to hit the stage will be Kanye West whose performance will be his seventh at the ceremony, Miley and Gaga while there are also rumours that Beyonce will appear.
The MTV VMAs 2013 air live on Sunday, August 25 from 9pm. Check out Katy's teaser below...
