Russell Brand has joked that being married was only just a bit better than being a monk as it only lets you have sex with one person. The comedian was performing a warm up gig on London on Wednesday when he made the dig, going on to claim he imagined having sex with other people while he was married.
Russell and Katy only managed 14 months as man and wife, finally splitting in December 2012. While the couple haven't divulged exactly what was wrong between them, Brand admitted in a recent interview that he struggled with monogamy. Insisting he was "100% faithful," during the marriage, he didn't find the only one women life easy.
It's at least given him some material for his standup show with Russell talking about his struggle with marriage during a pre-tour gig at the Soho Theatre in London this week.
"When I got divorced, I considered becoming a monk," he said according to The Sun, "When you're a monk, you're not allowed to have sex with anyone. When you're married, it's one person. That's one more than a monk. It's not that different.
"I'd be having sex thinking, 'Think of anyone, anyone else.'' he revealed.
Despite the claims, Brand admitted recently he loved being married.

"I tried it and I loved it. I really think she’s a lovely beautiful person [Katy Perry]. It’s just hard isn’t it? She’s got a lot of options, I’ve got a lot of options, so you’ve got to really, really want it," he told Esquire magazine.
"It's going to be hard if I go into a monogamous relationship [again]. I live a life where I have a lot of freedom, so if I meet someone and I go, ‘Right let's be monogamous,’ that's a f****** change."
We wonder what Perry will think of the latest mention in Russ' show? Speaking to Vogue magazine in June she admitted their relationship started going down hill when the lothario started using her as material for his stand up.
' "(He was) hysterical in some ways. Until he started making jokes about me," she claimed.
