Katy Perry has spoken out for the first time about rumours she was romantically involved with close friend Robert Pattinson insisting that they were "just friends", but that she felt the need to reassure his ex-girlfriend Kristen Stewart after gossip began to start.
The couple were spotted hanging out together on several occasions following the hunk's split, with the Firework babe admitting speculation got so intense she was forced to contact the actress and assure her nothing was going on.
Appearing to confirm the May break up of one of Hollywood's hottest couples the actress opened up about her friendship with Pattinson in a new interview with Elle Magazine.
The couple were spotted spending the weekend in Santa Barbara together, near the singer's home town as well as attending a Bjork concert in LA. But speaking out about the rumours Perry, who is currently dating John Mayer, claimed there was nothing romantic about their dates and that she was just helping Rob through his break up.
She told the magazine: "I sent her a text message saying: 'I know you've seen all this stuff but you know I would never disrespect you. I'm not that person. I'm just trying to be a friend to him but it is unfortunate that I do have a set of t*ts'"

Insiders at the time claimed Rob was leaning on the singer during his difficult break up because he didn't have many friends in Los Angeles.
"Katy has been really supportive of Rob since he and Kristen split up," a source told HollywoodLife at the time.
"She has been his main support during this whole breakup."
"Kristen has tons of friends that she can lean on, whereas most of Rob’s closest friends are in England," the source went on.
They added: "Rob isn’t going to hang out with Kristen’s friends anymore, so it’s like he doesn’t have Kristen in his life anymore, and that includes all of her friends."
Katy also addressed her relationship with John Mayer during the interview, who she has split with twice during their year long romance, most recently in February before reconcilling last month.
"He pulled away," she said of the break up, "That was a big hello for me.
"I realised I could lose the person I loved and I had to deal with some things, issues I think a lot of women have. You can be strong in one aspect of your life but submissive in another."
