Blimey! Daft Punk's 'Get Lucky' Passes The One Million Sales Mark In Just 69 Days

Ed Sheeran, Elton John and Atomic Kitten also reach the milestone

Just to top off what's already been an unbelievable year for French electronic duo Daft Punk the band's enormous smash 'Get Lucky', which has become the undisputed anthem for 2013, has sold over one million copies in the UK since it's release just 69 days ago.

The track becomes the first song to have been released in 2013 to reach the milestone and is just the 136th single ever to sell so many copies in the UK.

'Get Lucky' also becomes the first ever million selling single for collaborators Pharrell Williams and Chic legend Nile Rodgers who has been enjoying a huge resurgence of success since the record's release.

Speaking to OfficialCharts.com the 'We Are Family' hit maker said he was “awestruck” that 'Get Lucky' had sold over a million copies in the UK in such a short space of time before explaining: “When I think how it happened, too, with people who I like a lot, that we just decided to go into the studio and do something... And then it turns out like this? It's absolutely remarkable, because no-one was prepared for this!

"I've had big records and number ones; I have had records that were number one in the United States but nowhere else... I've had records which have done well [in the UK], but not in the States.

"But to have this ubiquitous record, that is a hit everywhere... it's amazing to me! I'm out on the road and I can hear it wherever I go. I'm flabbergasted!"

The feat also marks the fastest million selling single in the UK ever by a French artist and makes Daft Punk just the second French act to sell a million copies of a track in the UK alongside DJ David Guetta.

Peter Andre's 'Mysterious Girl' becomes possibly the cheesiest song ever to sell a million copies which is also joined by Kings Of Leon's 'Sex On Fire' which also become one of the latest records to join the million sellers club.

In 2013 alone 10 tracks have already reached a million sales including Psy's 'Gangnam Style' and James Arthur's 'Impossible' showing signs that singles sales continue to rise.
