Prince William And Kate Middleton 'Spend £1 Million On Kensington Palace Renovations Ahead Of Royal Baby Birth'

The couple will move into Apartment 1A at the palace after the birth of their first child later this year

Prince William and Kate Middleton are giving their plush Kensington Palace spread a £1 million makeover before the birth of their first child later this year.

The couple are on the verge of moving into the Palace's exclusive Apartment 1A – the former home of Princess Margaret – and are understood to have invested heavily in the 21-room property as heavily pregnant Duchess Kate prepares for her July birth.

According to Hello magazine, our future King and Queen have spent £600,000 on renovations to their sprawling home, with an additional £400,000 spent on various repairs to its roof.

The entire heating, electric and water system has also been replaced, while further work has been carried out to remove potentially dangerous asbestos from the property.

Excited: Kate shares a joke during a recent public appearance

Despite its luxury status, the apartment – which includes staff quarters and a nursery - has not had any renovations since the sixties.

William and Kate are currently staying at nearby Nottingham cottage while the modifications are being carried out, with builders scheduled to complete their work by the Autumn.
