Miley Cyrus has rocketed up to number five in the Billboard Hot 100 chart with her latest single, 'We Can't Stop' and the singer's sucess comes after director Diane Martel defended the controversial video

The 20-year-old, who made her fame on the Disney sitcom Hannah Montana, is set for a number one track. Charting at number five 'We Can't Stop' has now become the stars sixth Top 10 single in the United States.

Her chart success comes after recent controversy over her overly sexualised music video for the track. The blonde star continued her rebelious streak by participating in very provactive moves on top of a quilted bed.

Director Diane Martel wasn't worried about the backlash as she told MTV News: "We set out to make something we would love and we did!"

Despite the overwhelming reactions from fans, the director claims that she doesn't understand what the fuss is about, saying: "I don't see this video as shocking, it's creative."

"We spoke a lot and sent photos back and forth; we spoke about her love of her close friends," Martel wrote in a statement.

"She is not a career-crazed kid. Her music is intensely important to her but so is her social life; [so] we spoke about the joy of tight friendships. To me, she is showing us, the audience, her playful, beautiful self, very freely. [It's] a music video version of what it must be like to bug out and act crazy with her in real life," she added.

Alternative rock band, Imagine Dragons, have continued their growing popularity as they advance a place to three, with 'Radioactive', ahead of Florida Georgia Line's collaboration 'Cruise' featuring Nelly which has climbed the chart to number four.
