Matt Smith: 'I Will Be Back For New Series Of Doctor Who'

Actor promises he's not leaving the show for Hollywood

Doctor Who star Matt Smith has confirmed that he will be returning for the eighth series of the hit BBC show.

The 30-year-old actor is currently filming Ryan Gosling's directorial debut across the pond and he's rising profile has led some to believe he'd soon move on from Doctor Who.

“I'm on a break for a couple of months while I'm in Detroit making How to Catch a Monster,” he revealed to The Sun.

Smith has shaved off his famous locks for the role in Gosling's film and is said to be courting much attention from Hollywood, but he's assured fans he's not leaving just yet.

"We come back and shoot the Christmas special over the summer, then we go on to the next series, which will either start filming at the end of this year or at the start of 2014," he continued.

Steven Moffat also confirmed the new series saying it was “definitely” in the works.

"It is real and it's happening - it's taking up most of my time at the moment," Moffat told Digital Spy on the BAFTA red carpet.

The series finale is set to air tomorrow night but will return in November for its 50th anniversary show which will star Smith, Jenna-Louise Coleman, David Tennant, Billie Piper and John Hurt.
