Ex-England international Paul Gascoigne has been urged to seek treatment after he attacked a photographer in Liverpool City centre.
Gazza was attending a fund raising event at the Hope Street Hotel in Liverpool on the same day he was sacked as manager of Kettering Town after the chairman accused him of drinking on the job.
The doctor who tried to save George Best has issued a warning to Gazza urging him to change his ways.
Speaking to Sky News Professor Roger Williams said: "I would have thought that should encourage him to take all the necessary steps.
"My advice would be to just take up all the possible help he can get - medically, psychologically and friends, whatever. He just has to accept it and know he has to have help to get on top of it.
It is believed that the photographer who Gazza hit may press charges.
Gazza has been bailed to return to a Liverpool police station in February next year.
