Seth MacFarlane To Return To The Oscars? Academy Awards Producers Rehired Despite Sexism Row

Craig Zadan and Neil Meron return as producers

Could Seth MacFarlane be returning to the Oscars? Well despite the fact that the Family Guy creator said "never again", the producers of last year's controversial show, Craig Zadan and Neil Meron are returning, paving the way for the much criticised host to do so should he want to.

Despite delivering record audiences for broadcaster ABC, last year's Academy Awards came under fire, with Hollywood stars like Jamie Leigh-Curtis laying into MacFarlane for his perceived sexism.

Yet Academy President Hawk Koch came out in support of the producers, praising the Awards show, despite widespread distaste over jokes at the expense of some of the Academy's top female stars, including the much maligned "Boobs Song".

“Craig and Neil have the overwhelming support of the Academy's Governors to produce the Oscars again in 2014," said Koch, adding: "In order to establish continuity with this year's enormously successful show, we felt it was important to give these consummate professionals the green light now to begin creating another great evening."

Zadan and Meron won't be shying away from making the show "distinctive", even if MacFarlane won't be there due to his vow to stay away from hosting duties.

"We are very honored to have been asked to return as Oscar producers for a second year, we look forward to creating a distinctive and entertaining show," the pair said in a statement.

Aside from MacFarlane's risque quips, last year's show will be remembered for the musicals, something the producers have bucket loads of experience in, having executive produced films like Footloose, Chicago and Hairspray.

So with MacFarlane vowing never return, will next year be tuneful without bad taste? Or will the producers have another surprise up their sleeves?
