Jennifer Lawrence Admits She Has Her Mum To Thank For Landing Role In The Hunger Games

The actress says she wouldn't be where she is now without her mum's advice

Jennifer Lawrence's life has changed a lot since she landed the role as Katniss Everdeen in The Hunger Games and the stunning star has now admitted that she's got her mum to thank for her acting success.

2013 definitely looks to be the year for Jennifer Lawrence, with her already winning an Oscar for her role in Silver Linings Playbook, but it seems like she wouldn't have had such success without her mother Karen's advice.

She tells Fabulous magazine, "It's really rare that saying yes to something will completely change your life. I was happy with my life and I didn't know if I wanted it to change. I've always had this imaginary future where I would be a soccer mum that drove a mini-van and my kids would be normal."

She continued, "That just didn't fit with taking on a giant franchise. So, I took three days to decide, and each day was a different answer. I finally talked to my mum. I'd only really done indie films before that, and she said: 'Every time people ask you why you don't do studio movies, you always say that it's because you don't care about the size of the movie, you care about the story and the character. But you're a hypocrite, because now you have a story and a character that you love, but you're not saying yes to it because of the size of it."

She added, "So, I said yes."

However, Lawrence's parents weren't always so supportive, and when she quit school at the age of 14 to move to New York, her older brothers Ben and Blaine had to persuade mum and dad to let their daughter take a chance on her dreams.

She says, "My brothers called them and said: 'You've travelled all over the country with us, for baseball, football and basketball. This is her baseball game. You have to support her.' So they were forced to, at that point."

It's a good job they did!
