With the news that Morrissey has been forced to scrap the remainder of his US tour due to ongoing health troubles, we couldn't help but wonder if a bad strand of bad luck has hit the music world with the star just the latest in a long line of singers forced to pull out of gigs due to illness and injury.
The news of Morrissey's scrapped tour came with a statement issued on his behalf yesterday which confirmed that "medical mishaps" are to blame for the cancellation of the remaining 22 tour dates.
His frighteningly serious issues have included double pneumonia, a bleeding ulcer and Barrett's esophagus with the star's publicist Lauren Papapietro explaining: "Despite his best efforts to try to continue touring, Morrissey has to take a hiatus and will not be able to continue on the rest of the tour. Morrissey thanks all of his fans for their well wishes and thoughts."
But Morrissey isn't the only casualty, Lady Gaga has also fallen foul of the tour curse after she was forced to have an operation in February after tearing her right hip, leaving her unable to walk let alone dance in the midst of performing on her 'Born This Way Ball' tour. The entire tour had to be cancelled with the star now resting up in her 24-carat gold-plated wheelchair designed for her by Ken Borochov of luxury brand Mordekai.
Then there's poor Rihanna who was forced to cancel two dates on her Diamonds tour earlier this week after being struck down with laryngitis. The star pulled out of two gigs in Baltimore and Boston following doctors orders to rest. Fortunately for her fans though, RiRI made a triumphant return to the stage in Philadelphia later in the week.
Poorly Rihanna reportedly felt “awful” for diaspointing her fans. “She feels awful she had to cancel two f****** shows but it wasn't nothing she could do about that,” an insider told HollywoodLife. “She hopes her fans give her another chance and you know she's going to give the crowd in Boston and Baltimore a little extra!”
Here's hoping this curse doesn't lead to anymore poorly stars!
Jessie J performing with her injury at Glastonbury 2011 (WENN) - 'Domino' singer Jessie J broke her foot while performing on stage in 2011, and after surgery she was forced to cancel a string of shows including, T In The Park in Kinross, Scotland, Lovebox in east London and Key 103 Summertime Live in Manchester.
