Cracatilla are:
James Lewis - lead vocals/guitar/keys
Dave Peng - bass/vocals
Louis Fitzpatrick - drums/vocals
Hailing from Liverpool, three piece Cracatilla are a prolific bunch who have already clocked up an impressive array of radio sessions, TV appearances and a trail of wowed audiences UK-wide, in the relatively short time of just over a year that they've been together. Their name is a mis-spelling of the volcanic Krakatoa.
James and Dave originally met at school where they competed for female attention playing their guitars in the common room. Side-long suspicious glances kept the two apart until after they had left the education system, then they joined forces and Louis who lived at the end of James' street completed the trio.
The band were quickly snapped up by Honey records, a small label based in Liverpool and their epic journey was begun. Their first single 'What Do I know' has been praised by all and sundry because of its inimitable laid back summery vibe that hangs on James' soulful vocal. The single was given added credibility due to being mixed by Gary Wilkinson, renowned for his work with Badly Drawn Boy.
The lads have spent much of their time touring the length and breadth of the country with their broad ranging sound, which encompasses Leadbelly-esque acoustica and Led Zeppelin-esque workhouse bluesy rock. James cites Jimmy Page as one of his guitar heroes which perhaps influences some of his talented guitar style and one handed lead breaks, but don't think that this means Cracatilla are a bunch of tired old rockers. Far from it, the band have a fresh and new sound, and while willing to absorb the great masters of the past they're producing the songs and sounds of the future.
Lead by their charismatic frontman James Lewis, who more often than not is denim clad head to toe, sporting woolly hat and dreadlocks, the Cracatilla boys have a bright future ahead of them. Building on the success of their first single, the Cracatilla mountain is truly unstoppable.
