Oscar nominee Quvenzhané Wallis has been confirmed as taking the lead role in the upcoming remake of Annie.
9-year-old Wallis, who has will become the youngest ever Best Actress winner if she triumphs tonight (February 24) for her role in Beasts of the Southern Wild, will replace Willow Smith in the role.
Smith pulled out of the remake last month to enjoy more of her childhood, despite dad Will and mum Jada Pinkett-Smith producing alongside rapper Jay-Z.

“Quvenzhané Wallis is a true star and we believe her portrayal as Annie will make her a true worldwide star," Columbia Pictures president of production Hannah Minghella said in a statement.
"She is an extraordinary young talent with an amazing range, not only as an actress but as a singer and dancer, and we can't wait for audiences to further discover her," the film boss added, according to Buzzfeed.
Director Will Gluck is rewriting the screenplay for the movie with a view to a 2014 release.
