It’s the week that all the celebrity contestants have been dreading: Props week. And with Jason’s dreaded warning, “NEVER EVER drop your prop!” the pressure was on to pull off a show-stopping performance.

This year Torvill and Dean had told the contestants that they were giving them props that were most suited to their day job, so you’d think that handling them would be a doddle- perhaps not!

First up were Beth Tweddle and her partner Dan, who had a hula hoop to get to grips with.

Performing the Lady Gaga’s ‘Born this way’, the Olympic star seemed to pull off a stellar performance, and this was reflected in her score of 30 points.

However, during the judges’ comments, most of them noted that the performance was predictable with Robin saying that “it felt a bit clean and safe.”

Jason meanwhile said that while Beth had skill with the hula hoop, she “lacked performance” as there was too much concentration on getting the routine right.

Up next was Boxing champ Luke Campbell, who had to find a way of making a skipping rope fit into his routine.

He did this very well it seemed with the judges matching his score to Beth’s with 30 points. Ashley Roberts seemed impressed as she told Luke “you had one of the toughest props but you made it work”, whilst Jason commented that Luke was in his “comfort zone” handled the rope with “aplomb and attack”

After previously clashing with Jason after the judge said he had an attitude problem, Luke was very pleased with Jason’s feedback whilst most of the audience were surprised Jason was being so nice!

Matt and Brianne were up next with a challenging trio of hats to contend with, and after topping the leader board last week, the pressure was on for a repeat performance.

And it seemed that the former Eastenders star didn’t let the pressure get to him as he and Brianne pulled off an amazing performance.

The pair seamlessly incorporated three different hats into the routine which consisted of a medley of songs. On paper this sounded very difficult, but Matt and Brianne made it look very easy and the judges were suitably amazed, scoring them a whopping 36 points- the highest of the season so far!

Ashley described the routine as “fun, funky and fabulous!” whilst Karen said that it was her favourite routine so far.

Jason and Robin also commented that that Matt showed great skill and dexterity with the props, whilst effortlessly integrating three different characters into the routine- Go Matt!

This week Samia was out to prove that she could skate on her own as well as with partner Sylvain- and she did just that albeit with a chair thrown in as well!

It was clear that Samia had put a lot of effort into her routine and the judges seemed to appreciate that with all of them agreeing that she had “upped her game”.

She scored 28 points- her best yet, with Karen adding that she did a great performance and “really attacked it”.

Finally it was Gareth’s turn to tackle a prop and what’s more perfect than a rugby ball?

Dancing to The Script’s ‘Hall of Fame’, Gareth and Robin pulled off an elegant performance which left the judges, audience and viewers mesmerised.

Robin commented that he had “seamless use of the prop”, before adding “I have never known a rugby ball to be beautiful or elegant- until you two tonight.”

Gareth and Robin scored a fantastic 34.5 points, putting them second on the leader board behind Matt.

So there you go. With only 5 contestants left, only four of them will make it through to next week’s semi-final. But who will it be? Tune into the results show to find out!
