The Independent Spirit Awards celebrated the cream of the independent filmmaking world last night (Saturday 23 Februrary) in California, sending Silver Linings Playbook star Jennifer Lawrence and Magic Mike actor Matthew McConaughey home with awards.
Dozens of actors who worked hard on independent movies last year were honoured at the ceremony, including Helen Hunt, Jack Black and Bruce Willis.

The big winner of the night was Silver Linings Playbook, which picked up the awards for Best Feature, Best Director, Best Screenplay, and Best Female Lead for Jennifer Lawrence.
The legendary John Hawkes beat Jack Black and Bradley Cooper to pick up Best Male Lead for his work in the film The Sessions, while his co-star Helen Hunt was chosen as the Best Supporting Female.
Bruce Willis picked up a nomination for Best Supporting Male for his part in “Moonrise Kingdom”, but lost out to heartthrob Matthew McConaughey, who took home the award for his memorable work in Magic Mike.
Quvenzhané Wallis, the youngest Oscar nominee in history, was in contention for Best Female Lead for her performance in “Beasts of the Southern Wild” but was pipped to the post by The Hunger Games star Jennifer.
The Perks Of Being A Wallflower, starring Emma Watson as a lead character, also picked up a gong for Best First Feature.
