Crime comedy movie Identity Thief starring Melissa McCarthy and Jason Bateman took the US box office top spot this Oscars weekend.
In a typically slow weekend for the box office, the road movie took a measly $13.5 million, which was enough to beat second place finisher, Dwayne Johnson’s new release Snitch, as it raked in $13.2 million.

Nicholas Sparks novel adaptation Safe Haven came in third, pulling in another $10.8 million thanks to high profile stars Julianne Hough and Josh Duhamel.
Alien family film Escape From Planet Earth and Bruce Willis’ action sequel A Good Day to Die Hard took fourth and fifth places with $10.4 million and $9.3 million, respectively.
Filling out the Top 10 were alien thriller Dark Skies ($8.5 million) and Oscar contender Silver Linings Playbook ($5.7 million).
Unconventional zombie romance Warm Bodies returned $4.5 million, while the Twilight-esque offering Beautiful Creatures took $3.6 million. Pharmacological drama Side Effects rounnded things off, cashing $3.4 million.
