The Shining

After the break up of the Verve in 1999, founding bassist Simon Jones looked to form a new band with ex-Stone Roses guitar legend John Squire.

Squire, also nursing wounds from the recent split of the Seahorses had an itch to make music. He, Jones, and fellow Verve guitarist Simon Tong joined forces with drummer Mark Heaney and heart throb vocalist Duncan Baxter; naming themselves The Shining after the Stephen King novel.

The association with the notoriously difficult Squire didn't last long and he left the band early on. Guitarist Dan MacBean then joined the group. Debut singles 'Quicksilver' and 'Wonder How' were released in early 2002 and an American deal was signed with Epic. The band soon split and Simon Tong again jumped ship to join Blur after the departure of Graham Coxon.
