One Direction may have lost out in the Best British Group category to Mumford and Sons, but they didn't go home empty-handed after all.
The boys were victorious in the new Global Success category, introduced to recognise the boys' phenomenal achievements overseas over the last year.
Adele was also a major winner, picking up the Best British Single prize for her song 'Skyfall'.

Host James Corden made frequent jokes about her being cut off during last year's ceremony. She was famously interrupted so that Blur could perform an extended set, and flipped the bird as she was ushered off-stage.
This year, she had to specially record a message of thanks, as she is in LA preparing for the Academy Awards this weekend.
“I won’t keep you too long because I don’t want to mess up the speech at the end of the night," she joked.
Corden asked afterwards: “Has she definitely finished? She didn’t say anything else? Have you checked the tape?”
