Zayn Malik was moved to tears while visiting a children’s Hospital in Ghana on behalf of Comic Relief, with the One Direction star breaking down on camera when faced with the horrifying reality of suffering in the African country.
The ‘Kiss You’ star might be adored by millions but in the appeal video, aired during Let’s Dance For Comic Relief tonight, the glitz and glamour of the celeb world seemed a million miles away as the teenager begged viewers for donations to this year’s Red Nose Day Appeal.

“We all waste money but the most important thing we can all do is give £5 to protect children from these illnesses,” the stricken star said.

After meeting one young patient, who would not have been in hospital if he had been given a vaccination at birth, the singer became so overcome by emotion he was forced to step outside where he broke down in tears, so frustrated was he at witnessing the boy’s plight.
One Direction spent time in the Princess Marie Louise Children’s Hospital in Accra to raise awareness of the need for vaccines against preventable disease.

Speaking about how the life changing visit had affected him, Zayn said in January: “It kind of put things into perspective for me, just in like in everyday life you have like little problems that we think are so major, and then you go over there and you actually see people that are actually dealing with real problems.”
One Direction’s Comic Relief charity single ‘One Way Or Another’ is released this week. Soon after the video aired Harry Styles’ mum Anne Cox took to Twitter to urge people to donate.
She wrote: “Well if that doesn't make you text YES to 70005 I don't know what will #rednoseday #comicrelief #letsdance @onedirection ❤”
One Direction are just one of the stars taking part in Red Nose Day as the charity marks its 25th year. Jessie J, who has promised to shave her head, JLS and Russell Brand are just some of the stars taking part in this year’s appeal.
Red Nose Day will come to a climax on March 15 with the usual appeal show, screened on BBC 1 that evening. For details on making donations please go to www.rednoseday.com
