More then one million people voted, and Maria and Irish group, The Conway Sisters were left battling for their place on the show.
After Sharon Osbourne chose the Conway Sisters, Simon Cowell chose Maria to stay leaving Louis Walsh with the deciding vote.
He said at the time: "This is a really difficult decision for me. But the act I have to send home tonight is Maria."
Maria was voted off the show by the judges 2-1 leaving The Conway Sisters, Nicholas, Brenda, Andy, Shayne, Chico and Journey South to battle it out again next week.
After being voted off Maria said: "I just want to say thank you so much to Sharon.
"If Louis went with his heart, then fair enough. This is just the beginning for me now."
Maria�s mentor Sharon Osbourne said: "I think this is a travesty. Maria is too talented to stop."
