She gave a performance that we will never forget as the pushy American grandmother of Lady Mary and it appears that we could be seeing Shirley MacLaine back on Downton Abbey when series four begins.
Having dodged the barrage of questions about possible famous faces making an appearance on the hugely successful period drama at last night's National Television Awards, Julian who appeared coy at first about the return of the iconic Hollywood actress said:
"She is completely unique and we were thrilled she was in the show but I never really know what's coming."
Could we be seeing Shirley back for series four of Downton Abbey (WENN)
However, when Phyllis Logan, who plays Mrs Bates in the hit drama, commented: "She could come back", Julian commented:
"Oh no! she will come back. I'm sure. But I never know what's happening."
Well, that's good news for us! We can't wait!
Meanwhile, Hugh Bonneville who plays the Earl Of Grantham expressed his concerns over how long the period drama could go on for.
According to the Mail Online, the actor commented: "I am sure the money men would like it to go on for ever and ever because it does sell extremely well around the world. I think the next series is nudging forward and starts six to eight months ahead from the last and I think we will start to bump into other period dramas if we are not careful time wise.
"I hope Julian quits while he is ahead but he is a wise soul."
