'Whitney Houston Lip Synced Anthem' Destiny's Child Star Defends Beyonce

As official CONFIRMS she did in fact mime, due to lack of rehersal time

Beyonce lip-synced her performance of the 'Star Spangled Banner' during President Obama's Inauguration ceremony on Monday because she “didn't have time to rehearse,” an inaugural official has reportedly confirmed.

Though the singer has not commented on the controversy following the performance, US news site CNN has reported an un-named official working on the ceremony as confirming that she did in fact mime the US national anthem, due to her late arrival on Sunday night giving her no time to practice with the U.S. Marine Band.

"She did not sing live," the official confirmed.

"Because she didn't have time to rehearse with the Marine Band, she decided to use her recording with the Marine Band," they explained.

They went on to reveal the band and Beyonce recorded their performances separately, with the two then played out together on Monday.

The 'Bootylicious' star had been roundly congratulated as the stand out performance on the day, stealing the spotlight from fellow performers Kelly Clarkson, James Taylor and even the President himself.

Defending her decision not to sing live, the official insisted:"She's actually a very good live singer," and that "she was spot on," when making the pre-recorded live version.

While the singer has yet to comment on the performance, fellow Destiny's Child bandmate Michelle Williams has rocked to her defence, pointing out that Whitney Houston also lip synced her famous SuperBowl anthem performance.

She told Entertainment Tonight in the US: “I will say this, it’s not the first or the last time that someone has had to lip-sync.”

“My greatest singer of all time, Whitney Houston, it came to light that her anthem was in fact lip-synced.” “It’s their personal preference,” she went on.

“With big crowds and echoes, you know when it’s a big historical moment, you don’t want any room for any mistakes so I can understand why it was done.”
