Taylor Swift has dated some of the most eligible bachelors out there - think One Direction's Harry Styles, Jake Gyllenhaal and 'Twilight' star Taylor Lautner to name but three - but she's never been able to make her relationships last any longer than it takes for her to record an album.
Now, in a frank interview with Vibe, the 'We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together' singer has finally admitted the real reason why she can't make a relationships work.
And we imagine the revelation that romantic Taylor craves her independence too much to settle down may surprise a few of her fans:
“Independence is something I’ve always needed, from when I was young."
“It’s an interesting part of my personality: Part of me just wants to be alone.”
Taylor Swift - who recently split from One Direction heartthrob Harry Styles - then went on to suggest that the one true love in her life, for the moment at least, is her career. And she doesn't want to let a relationship jeopardise her success in the charts:
“I just know that if you’re not careful with things they can go away. I’ve seen people with careers that were great until they started taking them for granted. And I’m scared of that.”
"But I love the idea of romance and falling in love. I’ve never really had a long relationship. So that’s something I think about for the future.”
We hope that, someday, Taylor Swift can find a way to balance both her career and her lovelife - maybe she should look to Lady Gaga, who is happily dating Taylor Kinney, for guidance?
