They say the proof is in the pictures, and when new Mum Drew Barrymore gets snapped with baby Olive, she looks every inch the proud, protective parent. However, just in case her position isn't clear, she's spelled out the way she feels to Good Housekeeping magazine.
Drew told the publication "I will literally fight like a lion to keep my family in tact," adding "Maybe I wouldn't feel that way if I had a great family growing up."
Drew's family formed the famous Barrymore acting dynasty, but despite her illustrious connections, Drew's childhood was filled with parties and drug abuse. She famously entered rehab in her early teens and transformed her life.
She revealed "The best thing about being a mom is just what a better person it makes you on a daily basis.
"Every morning when I wake her up, the endgame is 'can I get her to smile?' and that puts me in a good mood. It's definitely a different way to live. And a much better one."
Drew has always been open about how much she enjoys spending time out and about with her friends - but explained that, during pregnancy, she kept a very low profile. "I didn't go out for like six or seven months. It was really nice to just get quiet," she said, adding "I cleaned out every single drawer in my house.
"I went through storage units. That's how I lived out my days. They say cats run around shredding paper before they're about to give birth. That's exactly how I was."
