For most gay teens, High School sadly still remains a pretty tortuous ordeal. And for nearly all of us, Prom can be one of the loneliest nights of a gay youngster’s coming of age. Which is why Jacob Lescenski’s story, asking his gay best pal Anthony Martinez to their High School prom, is particularly heartwarming and is currently blowing up the internet.
Jacob, a straight Las Vegas student couldn’t think of anyone he’s want to join him to Prom, the most important night in any youngster’s calendar, than his gay best friend who he calls a “brother”.
And that’s not even the best bit. You know how you’ve always wanted a proposal plastered on a humungous banner? Well, we have, and that’s just how the inspiring teen asked his gbf to be his date to their High School dance.
You’re hella gay, I’m hella str8, but you’re like my brother, so be my d8?” wrote our new hero Jacob, publicly declaring his love for a clearly overwhelmed Anthony. Of course, he got a big YES!
Anthony tweeted a snap of the whole thing and it’s literally making our hearts melt.

Jacob told newnownext his best pal deserved a fate because he’s an “amazing guy”. And amazing guys should not be going to their Prom alone.
“I decided on going to prom alone because my original date idea didn’t work out so well,” explained Jacob. “Then one night I saw Anthony, who is my best friend, tweeting about wanting a date.”
“So, I came up with the poster idea, asked my friend Mia to make it and asked him that next day,” he recounts. “No one knew about it except for me, my friend Jamie, and Mia, who made the poster. It was a giant surprise to everyone, especially Anthony!”
Despite helping organising a string of High School dances, Anthony says he never imagined a guy would ever actually ask him to one. “Being gay, and knowing I’m too busy for guys, no gay guy would ask me to a dance, let alone prom. So like any teen I complained about it on Twitter.”
But then on Wednesday, Anthony was minding his own in the lunch room selling prom tickets, and when headed upstairs: “I saw this giant poster and assumed it was for another person—until I read ‘You’re hella gay.’”
We can’t wait to see their big day!
