Rihanna (born February 20, 1988) is a Bajan singer who is best known for her hit singles including Umbrella, We Found Love and Diamonds. Discovered by record producer Evan Rogers in Barbados in 2003, she then auditioned for then Def Jam president Jay-Z.

She broke into the scene with Pon De Replay in 2005 and got to number two in the US and UK charts. It wasn’t long before she hit the top spot though, with single SOS in 2006. Since then she’s released seven studio albums, selling 50 million copies around the world and 190 million singles and thirteen US number ones.

Away from music, Rihanna is also known for her sense of style and at times controversial behaviour. In 2014 she was banned from Instagram for posting, what they claimed were inappropriate nude images.

Her on/off relationship with Chris Brown has also kept her in the headlines. In 2009 Brown assaulted Rihanna while driving home from a pre-Grammy party, he later pleaded guilty and was sentenced to five years probation and a restraining order, to keep him away from the singer was also enforced. In 2012 this was lifted, around the same time rumours they were once again seeing each other began circulating.

Despite huge criticism from many domestic abuse groups and some fans, the couple went public with a romance in October 2012, after Chris had broken off his relationship with stylist Karrueche Tran. They split in May 2013.
