Singer/songwriter Jesse McCartney has defended Hannah Montana star Miley Cyrus's controversial Vanity Fair shoot - insisting the pictures were not "offensive".

The 21-year-old stuck up for the 15-year-old actress following the backlash the Disney Channel star encountered after posing for photos, which have been deemed too sexy for a teenager.

Cyrus' clean cut image was damaged by the release of images of her wrapped in just a satin bedsheet in June's edition of the U.S. magazine.

And McCartney can't understand why the media reacted so strongly.

He says, "I think that people are nuts. I didn't find any of the photos offensive in Vanity Fair. I thought they were artistic if anything.

"It sucks man. Everything about Miley was so sensationalised. I really feel for her you know."

I know I can't believe that people would stop being her fan for just 1 little picture I mean she got preasured into doing that picture ok now Brittney Spears is terrible she drowned her own child ok I used 2 b Brittney Spears fan but u know now I am not she is just plain gay I love Miley but hate Brittney

I totally agree with Jesse McCartney... The Vanity Fair photo was really okay, I mean, try heading to any beach and you'll find girls WAY more offensive. Go Miley!

I'v seen the photos, there is nothing wrong they are not ''too sexy for a teenager''. I don't know why people judge celebrities so harshly, if they put one foot out of line they say the fame has gone to their head and their going to end up bad. Miley is a great role-model for young girls with her acting on Hannah Montana and singing, she is also very beautiful, please stop judging these people they have lives too.

I think Miley is great at acting as well singing, but as a young girl I don't think it was "okay" for her to show herself off like that but if it was her decision and her parent were okay with it then why be all stupid about what she did i mean. Shes big right now let her do what she wants to do. Its not like she was completely naked or anything.
