Heather Mills Has 'Borderline Personality Disorder'

Claims Judy Finnigan...

Saturday 29th Dec 2007

TV star Judy Finnigan has claimed Heather Mills suffers from “borderline personality disorder” just like the late Princess Diana.

Finnigan says Mills – currently locked in a bitter divorce battle with Sir Paul McCartney – should seek help to deal with her condition.

She says in a new magazine interview, “I think Heather's a textbook case... it is quite a serious condition, characterised by paranoia, fantasy and delusions.

"I'll tell you who else suffered from that - Princess Diana. When Heather compared herself to Diana, I think there was some truth in it, though not in the way she meant. I think she really needs help."

  • Gee, is Judy on to something here? Our panel of experts here has discovered this to be true a long long time ago. Maybe the Judges at this divorce case should take a long look at this woman mental stability. Not healthy for a young child. Bea deserves only the best in life.

  • Well there's certainly SOMETHING disordered about her. Throwing huge 'fun' parties-Heathers' Funhouse?-w/her many 'hundreds of friends,' costing thousands of pounds then has to sell it?! If she has any memory at all, she'd remember it was a party that started this latest off-piste' avalanche. Georgy: I hope you R.S.V.P'd whether or not you were going to go to HM's party. She would like at least one dance to bring in the New Year!

  • I have BPD and it takes a skilled assessment to determine this illness. With good treatment you an get better. However I am unhappy about the fact that Judy Finnegan makes erself a psychiatrist now. My psychiatrist prof Anthony Bateman a world expert on BPD works really hard to train clinicians up in diagnosis and management. Perhaps Judy Would like to approach him for some frmal training. This is a serious diagnosis not something you bandy about in the media.

  • While I am not a fan of Heather Mills, I don't see any proof of this claim. I have studied BPD extensively for years, and am always upset to read false characterizations of a serious disorder. Finnigan claims that BPD is "characterised by paranoia, fantasy and delusions," but that is not true. She must be thinking of a completely different disorder perhaps histrionic or delusional, but definitely not BPD. It's frustrating that so many untrained people want to diagnose BPD.

  • Being also a BPD sufferer, it frustrates me that people have such skewed ideas of what it is! Like Mary said, BPD is not AT ALL characterised by fantasy or delusions! We have emotional difficulties. Either way, the media shouldn't be publicising such news as if it's "entertainment". The vast majority of suicides are made by borderlines. Many that emotionally and physically abuse their partners are borderlines. Nothing funny or entertaining about that, surely?
