In what may well be our fave story of the day, Borat star Sacha Baron Cohen has reportedly signed up to play Freddie Mercuy.

Johnny Depp had originally been mooted for the lead role in the bio-pic, but producers and the surviving members of Queen have apparently been impressed by Borat's Freddiesque look.

A source tells the Daily Mirror, "Film makers are working flat out to get the best possible script. Sacha loves the idea he can get away with playing Freddie after modelling Borat's look on him."

Can't wait to see that one!

Anyone who can do the things he's done with a serious face and maintain an extrordinarily thick accent without even a minor fuck up should be able to play any role with precision. I only hope he doesn't mess up and use the accent as freddie.

No way! Johnny Depp is way better suited for the role. He'll make a joke out of the movie. Johnny Depp really gets into the role and even looks like him a bit. I don't want him to make a joke at one of the greatest musical minds of all time.

Does any one here actually know anything about Freddie? Or are you all just complaing because you won't be able to midlessly drool over Johnny Depp? Sasha will do a good job because he remains commited to the role. Have a look at what extremes he went though to stay ture to Borat. I want to know why everytime there is a challenging or unusual role, where someone has to have a quirkyness about him everyone looks at Depp, when Cohen has equal the personality, and charm?

forget Johnny Depp, Borat isnt playing F.M, Sacha is. Sacha looks way more like Freddy. Plus, Johnny Depp has enough under his belt. Having Depp in the movie will only take away, he's too known and will only dilute the movie. Remember its not BORAT, its SACHA, Borat only looked a little like Freddy. I LIKE!

I do not think Sacha Baron will fit. Freddie deserves to be played by a real actor and not by this guy who won`t portray Fred properly anyway. Hopefully they will stick to Johnny Depp!!! But above all, I hope this movie will not show too many falsehoods about Freddie but to portray and describe him in the right way to give others a little understanding of how he was even if he can't be replaced by anybody.

Although Borat is quite a cool guy, and i can see why they would want to use him, i believe Johnny Depp would be exellent for him, after all he is a Queen fan, and a brilliant actor, for me its like my dream has come true, my 2nd best man will be playing my 1st best man!!!

I was eagerly awaiting news of this film, until hearing this. If Borat plays this part, I not only won't see the movie, but will do my best to organize boycotts all over the state. With as wonderful a person as the subject of the film, Freddie Mercury, was...WHY taint his reputation by having Borat play him???

Are you kidding??? Any REAL fan of Queen would not avoid a movie just because a certain actor is acting. THATS RETARDED!!!!I really liked the comment that said people only drule over Johnny. I hope that Cohen does end up playing the part just to piss those people off. It makes me mad that people obsess over Johnny so much that they don't even remember who Freddie or Queen really was.

Nobody can deny that Cohen has great talent - he can play virtually any role. He is what Freddie what call "The Great Pretender". :P Just think of all the personalities he has assumed! Also, unlike Depp, Cohen is in fact similar to Freddie. Depp is a handsome man and a magnificent actor, but he is not suitable for this role. I think it is unfair that Cohen should be looked down upon ony because he is a comedian. As long as Cohen takes this role seriously, I'm sure he will do great!

Maybe Cohen wasnt the best choice but I dont think that Johnny would be the best.I don't think that just becauseCohen is playing asFreddie,that anyone should not watch the movie.Any real fan ofMercury wouldn't watch a movie because a certain actor isn't playing.I wont be judgemental of a movie until after I watch it then if I think the actor is crazy I can go talking negative about it.Sorry if I caused any offence,but I am a huge fan ofQueen and Johnny is just O.K.
